Staff training

The following training is provided to all our carers:

first aid, manual handling patient moving course, carers course, health & safety in a community setting, dementia awareness, stroke awareness, fetac level 5 care of the older person, therapeutic approaches to clients with dementia and stroke and diabetic care

We currently employ tutors who are Registered General Nurses, all our tutors are trained as Manual Handling Instructors and Occupational First Aid Instructors and they also have completed a Certificate in Training and Education NUI Maynooth. There is a strong emphasis on using a coaching style approach while studying the curriculum and practising the skills necessary for the position.

The aim of our in house training is to demonstrate good effective and efficient work practices in the provision of individualised holistic care for the older people.

• A good understanding of the concept of the ageing process.
• Be able to meet the full range of needs of the older person in a variety of care settings.
• Enhance the quality of life of the Older Person
• Be able to recognise the personal care needs of clients.
• Acquire Practical Skills in the area of Client Personal Care.
• Maintain a safe, healthy and hygienic environment for clients.
• Work effectively as part of the HealthCare Team.
